The future is now. Are you ready? Big Data, Analytics, Internet of Things and many other concepts are already reality and are implemented in business. Those who do not keep up with the new market trends will inevitably be left behind. Everyone should be prepared. Thinking about it, Harvard Business Review Brasil presents the Future of Work Forum today November 12 in São Paulo: a meeting with experts on the trends of this evolving market. What is the profile of the new leaders? What factors will impact education? What are the new learning models? Come and see the answers to these and other questions at the Future of Work Forum, which will take place on November 12 in São Paulo.

Garrick Jones, Fellow at the LSE and Co-Founder & Partner at Ludic, will be focusing on the Impact of Digital Transformation on Companies and Societies at 11am Brazil local time, 3pm CET, 2pm UK.

The future of work seems somber

  • There's a consensus that technology will replace humans.
  • Studies estimate that 10% of functions in the US will be automated in 2019 and almost half the functions will be automated by 2029.
  • The Deutsche Bank CEO predicts that half of its 97 thousand employees could be replaced by robots.
  • 39% of jobs in the legal sector could be automated within the next 10 years.
  • Accountants are at a 95% risk of losing their jobs to automation.
  • For production and manufacture businesses the future will arrive even earlier with the invention of "robotic workers".
  • Elon Musk said that machines are the "biggest existential threat".
  • The National Institute of Standards predicts that machines could increase production capacity by up to 20% and reduce the waste of materials by 4%.

Challenges for people and organizations

Do you have the skills that will not be automated? What about your team?

Soft skills like decision making based on critical thinking, clear communication, solving complex problems, learning through adaptation, and working well with others are hard for a machine to understand and codify. These are the skills that give us – and will continue giving us – advantage over robots.

Humans are strategic; machines are tactical!

The main goal of technology is to increase productivity and not reduce workforce.

  • How to prepare people and organizations?
  • What skills will be valued in the job market?
  • What is the profile of the future leader? What about the teams?
  • What factors will impact education?
  • What are the new learning models?
  • How important is purpose for companies and careers?
  • How to create and maintain an organizational culture in a virtual work environment?
